Building Safe Work Environments
MECART

Charles Lipeles, MECART | Construction Business Review | Top Modular Construction Products companiesCharles Lipeles, Vice President of U.S. Business Operations
The popularity of modular construction is on the rise, thanks to its widespread design possibilities. With greater control over the quality, time, and labor, this prefab building method allows businesses to create a custom safe work environment. However, modular construction projects are not spared from design, manufacturing, logistics, and assembly issues. To pivot through the challenges, companies require a solution partner with deep expertise and years of experience.

This is where MECART perfectly fits the bill.

Since 1974, MECART has engineered and manufactured custom-designed acoustic modular buildings, including control rooms, operator cabins, enclosures; modular cleanrooms; studios, and other controlled environments. Offering turnkey services that include design, engineering, manufacturing, and project management, the company emphasizes delivering the “best fit” for their clients from start to finish.

MECART adheres to stringent quality measures to offer precise control over specific factors in an industrial environment, such as temperature, humidity, and chemicals or other hazards. This enables them to address two basic client requirements—the protection of human life and the protection of products from the environment. “We design the perfect room according to clients’ specifications—be it an ISO 7 clean room for a pharmaceutical company, where the concern is for contaminants, or an operator’s cabin in Abu Dhabi that needs to maintain a desired temperature, positive pressure, and provide a view of the oil field,” says Charles Lipeles, Vice President of U.S. Business Operations.

MECART strives to ensure a hassle-free journey for clients by doing the heavy lifting and eliminating the risks involved in the engineering, manufacturing, and installation stages. Its design team works to understand all of a client’s critical requirements. They take into account the surrounding environment, the control room layout, and other requirements pertaining to installation and the purchasing processes to outline the perfect plan. The engineering team then studies the design and analyses the various aspects before beginning construction.

MECART’s full-fledged facility limits the time on-site and allows them to avoid unnecessary costs associated with project supervision during assembly, project management, construction site risks, and training for contractors.

It is their in-house team of experts that enables MECART to offer such comprehensive service and to always take a client-centric approach. They are passionate about their work and strive to achieve excellence, even under pressure.

This resilient attitude is best reflected in their successful client partnership with a hospital in Montreal during the onset of Covid-19. The hospital wanted 32 isolation rooms in a wing detached from the main hospital building. The positive air pressure rooms required their own ventilation system—to prevent airborne and contact transmission of infectious agents—along with a medical bed and bathroom for high-security isolation. Paying attention to the client’s requirements, MECART put together a “SWAT” team to design, engineer, and build pre-configured rooms, including airborne infection isolation rooms (AIIR), with negative-pressure differential and protective environment (PE) rooms with positive-pressure differential.

The project was efficiently completed within a stipulated timeframe, even amidst a global health crisis. MECART not only satisfied the immediate need but took into consideration the potential future use as well. “The positive air pressure rooms can be changed into negative air pressure rooms to be used later as isolation rooms for other threatening pathogens, such as Ebola virus,” says Lipeles.

We design the perfect room according to clients’ specifications—be it an ISO 7 clean room for a pharmaceutical company, where the concern is for contaminants, or an operator’s cabin in Abu Dhabi that needs to maintain a desired temperature, positive pressure, and provide a view of the oil field

MECART also played a vital role in addressing life science businesses’ skyrocketing demand for cleanrooms during the pandemic. The company easily achieved this due to its affiliation with PolR Enterprises and sister firms that equipped them with insulation and OEM solutions, avoiding supply chain disruptions.

MECART’s success is not limited to the healthcare sector. Its customized services, performed quickly, without sacrificing quality, have made it the go-to partner in numerous industries, including manufacturing, semiconductors, aerospace, and media. Be it acoustic reduction, ISO class, and precise control over vibrations, temperature, or humidity, MECART guarantees that all their completed projects meet expected performance. In fact, the company’s ISO 9001 customer satisfaction survey results show that in the last five years, 100% of their customers have recommended MECART to their peers—a feat almost unimaginable in the modular construction space.

To up their ante in the modular construction space, MECART recently set up a 31,250-square-foot facility in Greenville, South Carolina. The company is planning to make more investments in infrastructure to seamlessly address diverse client requirements. Their rigorous expansion strategies assure MECART’s future success for years to come.
