Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering are the pillars that make buildings desirable for occupancy. However, the implementation of MEP system designs can be tricky due to budget concerns, over-design and under-design, or unreliability of the systems.

Other than these technical challenges, a common problem is the overall communication, responsiveness, and coordination between MEP systems and other trades. For example, the mechanical system needs to integrate with the electrical system or Building Automation System (BAS) to power and control the HVAC system, or the fire alarm and firefighting systems need to be interlocked with the building smoke exhaust and elevator systems during fire occurrence. A lack of coordination across stakeholders or intersystem integration failure can lead to installation delays, errors, and increased costs.

That’s where MEP Green Design & Build (MEPG) can help.

MEPG is a full-service engineering firm with a dedicated team of professionals offering expertise in MEP and fire protection system design and installation for the commercial, hospitality, retail, institutional, and industrial markets.

By growing our presence in key locations, expanding our talented team of engineers, and leading the way into technological advancements, we aim to be listed as an MEP Giant within the next five years

“Effective and timely communication and coordination are the cornerstones of smooth MEP project development,” says Dung Vu, founder and president of MEPG. “Many firms struggle with this aspect of development. MEPG is built in a way that ensures this is never an issue in our projects.”
It makes a difference by coupling its ever-expanding technical expertise with the highest level of customer service and care. By continually incorporating advanced technologies, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling analysis, Flow Modelling analysis, advanced green design features, and energy modelling, the team meets the highest standards and requirements for the design of MEP systems for any Megaprojects.

A team of 120 engineers is complemented by a quality control team that manages and ensures transparency in communications. This combination drives MEPG to respond quickly to any client request. Its in-house construction team provides quick estimates and works with the design team on modifications to eliminate over or under-design issues and budget concerns.

Providing a Reliable and Efficient MEP System

For every MEP design and installation project, MEPG develops a detailed request for information (RFI) checklist as the first step.

“The pre-design checklist ensures that the owner project requirements and communication issues are addressed before starting the design work,” says Vu.

A kick-off meeting is held with the owners, design team, and contractors to review the specific requirements and ensures all parties are on the same page. The intent is to cover a broad range of topics, including alternative system proposal and selection, city code compliance, franchise operation requirements, and owner project requirement that may arise throughout the design process.

Along with the knowledge of best practices in design, customers value MEPG’s knowledge in building and commissioning MEP systems and experience as a design and build firm. It works as a true partner to clients rather than just as engineers tasked with developing MEP drawings. A project manager is assigned to every project, acting as a single point of contact for all parties.
MEPG was recently involved in the construction of a new hospital. The company proposed a combination of the air-cooled chiller to serve the critical areas and standard RTUs for the common areas. This not only met the needs and codes of all areas of the building, but also provided a more reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solution. MEPG’s extensive experience with complex chiller systems, medical facilities, and its budget-friendly approach led to them taking over as the design engineer of the entire MEP systems. It quickly created new mechanical design drawings and reduced the construction budget for mechanical systems from $4.7 million to $2.7 million.
MEPG’s success can be attributed to its urge to learn about the industry and evolve with it. Its team attends technical and design conferences, studies the newest MEP design tools and standards, and works with manufacturers to understand the latest technologies that can change the face of the industry. With this knowledge, it aims to incorporate high-tech and trending features into all phases of the design process.

When proposing systems to customers, it analyzes the pros and cons of each item and how they translate to real-world applications.

For example, the company can run simulations like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis and Flow Modelling Analysis to reveal precisely how a mechanical system meets a given room’s comfort level and design criteria. This makes clients confident about the MEP systems since they can visualize the temperature, relative humidity, and airflow velocity in a space under specific settings.

Continuing Global Growth

Since 2008, MEPG has experienced rapid growth and established itself as a leader in the hotel and resort industry, successfully completing more than 1,500 projects.

Licensed in all 50 states, including Puerto Rico, it aims to establish offices in many major markets to provide localized support to each project. MEPG will also strengthen its global footprint beyond Vietnam and Myanmar by moving into the Australian and South American markets.

“MEPG embraces the future by investing in technology,” says Vu. “By growing our presence in key locations, expanding our talented team of engineers, and leading the way into technological advancements, we aim to be listed as an MEP Giant within the next five years.”
