Innovative technologies and trends drive the North American construction industry to new heights. It also benefits other businesses that provide services to the construction sector.

FREMONT, CA: The North American construction sector is experiencing drastic changes due to the implementation of cutting-edge technological trends. These trends influence them and how they will primarily affect the industry. Since so many businesses provide services to the construction sector, it is essential for people working in the fluid power and motion control industry to keep an eye on these trends.

Regulation of carbon-based fuels is being tightened, which encourages the use of alternative energy sources.

Diesel engines, which power many of the machinery used in the construction sector, emit hazardous gases. Although laws over the past ten years have helped to reduce harmful emissions, more has to be done in this area.

As a result, new rules will probably be implemented for heavy-duty off-road machinery. California is already taking steps to reduce pollution from these vehicles, such as a 2024 ban on tiny gas engines. Heavy-duty trucks, also employed on construction sites, are expected to substantially reduce emissions.

Alternative power systems will be required to satisfy these and other upcoming emissions reduction goals. These include non-diesel fuels like hydrogen and propane, which have been shown to produce very few to no emissions.

Naturally, switching to alternative fuels or other power sources like batteries will affect the design of construction tools and machinery and the parts that make them up.

Production of renewable energy increases.

The demand to generate energy in a renewable way is growing as more alternative energy sources are added to the mix. Among the techniques used are solar panels and wind turbines. The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions predicts that renewable energy will grow 42 percent between 2010 and 2020. Following data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration in the white paper, renewable energy also makes up around 12 percent of the country's total energy consumption.
