FREMONT, CA: Thailand's prime minister announced on 25 June, 2021, that hundreds of construction sites will be closed and workers will be barred from leaving their camps for a month in order to combat the country's largest coronavirus outbreak to date. The decision came after the formation of new clusters in the capital's construction camps, which now account for 575 such sites in housing approximately 81,000 employees. In Bangkok camps, 37 clusters have been discovered since May, 2021. From next week, sites in some provinces surrounding Bangkok, as well as four in the south around Malaysia, will be closed.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said to reporters that they plan to implement this for a month and see if it works out and gets better. According to him, the labor ministry will cover the costs of delaying construction projects.
