The story dates back to 1958 when Dr.Ing. Leonhard Obermeyer founded the company OBERMEYER from a one person engineering office in Krailling near Munich. With a zeal for innovation, creativity, and sustainability,Dr.Obermeyer set out to lay the foundation for a company that would revamp Germany’s construction and planning landscape. Now, more than 60 years later, OBERMEYER’s expansion into a group of companies with domestic and international holdings with more than 1,400 employees across The Middle East and other countries stands as the true testament to its resounding success under the leadership of Mr. Maximilian Grauvogl, Group Shareholder and Mr.Jens Ulrich, Managing Director of OBERMEYER Group. Primarily focusing on the construction of transport and technical infrastructures as well as airports, OBERMEYER Group has become one of the world’s largest design and engineering companies throughout the construction space internationally by exchanging the German know how and expertise and tailoring its services to the demand of the local market. Alongside, the company has also delved into the construction of buildings that include iconic sporting, cultural and commercial buildings as well.

Back in 2005, the OBERMEYER Group established a branch in Abu Dhabi UAE for its operations in the Middle East and is currently holding the highest classification as “Special Consultant”, which is giving access to large scale and classified projects under the management of Dr. Ing. Ioannis Kiru, Managing Director and Mr.Spiridon Murr, Director of Operations in the Middle East Region. “Through extensive research and development backed by our passion for innovation and sustainability, we deliver products with such competence that instils high confidence in our clients,” says Murr.

The company always focuses on constructing energy efficient buildings to not only reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, but also help improve the functionality of buildings. No matter if the buildings are newly built or renovated, OBERMEYER Group always advocates an environmentally responsible approach by enhancing the energy efficiency of all buildings. “Minimising energy demands and other resources required for building operation naturally gives way to cost savings associated with investors and future users, which gives an attractive edge to our projects,” states Murr. The energy characteristics of buildings depend on their mass, choice of construction materials, and design of the technical system infrastructure.

And what helps the company optimize all those factors is the company’s BIM solution, based on which the company lays out the most effective design for the particular building.

The innovative three dimensional BIM method enables all project teams to coordinate their activities, intervene in a timely manner in case of any potential clashes, and thus prevent any mismanagement doldrums during construction. The model also enables the creation of simulations and analyses that helps the building proposal to be continuously optimized without the need for a lengthy and costly redesign of documents.

With their proficiency in building highly innovative, sustainable, and cost effective buildings coupled with a supple business approach, it is quite understandable that OBERMEYER Group can boast of constructing a ‘net zero’ energy building in the Middle East, the first of its kind with 190,000 square meters of built up area. The building is under construction with completely sustainable materials and is set to turn into a net zero energy building year over year. Other notable achievements include the modernization of Berlin Tegel Airport, the renovation of the football stadium in Cologne, the Olympic Village in Athens , and implementing the Master Plan of the new Kuwait International Airport, the largest ongoing construction airport project in the Middle East!

What’s more, apart from following a responsible approach to designing and constructing environment friendly buildings, there’s also a growing demand for their energy and environmental certification. This is where OBERMEYER Group makes a huge difference in facilitating LEED and BREEAM certifications, with added emphasis on the BREEAM system, which is dominant in the European region.

As OBERMEYER Group steps into the future, the company is constantly modulating its business strategy in the middle east by restructuring its slogan that reads— ‘Transforming while Performing’. OBERMEYER Group is leading the transformation process by adding other competencies to their portfolio in the middle east. For instance, the company is taking up transportation projects in the aviation sector and working on an ongoing project for a state of the art international airport. At the same time, the company is also expanding into inland transportation by bagging contracts for railway and metro projects across the UAE region. “We are looking at a 20 percent growth in our turnover in the days to come by venturing into different fields other than our normal practices all the while capitalizing on innovation and sustainability,” buoyantly concludes Murr.
