When the multinational video game company Nintendo wanted to revamp its Vancouver offices, it sought proven partners that could precisely meet its needs. At the top of the list was Pacific Flo Mechanical, a contractor known for its proficiency in delivering on-time projects with a proactive approach to every client need and property specification.

“One of the most significant challenges we encounter on nearly every project is the substantial discrepancy between the provided drawings and their real-world application,” says Giordano Ferrari, owner of Pacific Flo Mechanical.

To tackle this issue head-on, its team prioritizes identifying potential design issues during the budget and quotation stages and addressing any concerns before project initiation. Recognizing that deadlines are paramount, Pacific Flo Mechanical’s efforts always aim to save clients valuable time by reducing delays by up to three weeks. For instance, in the Nintendo project, its proactive approach eliminated the risk of delays and bridged the gap between design plans and the building’s actual infrastructure.

“Our ability to spot issues early—often providing adjusted pricing and notes on quotations—enables clients to stay on top of potential challenges,” says Diego Aiello, owner.

A Culture of Excellence Powered by a Well-Trained Team

Central to Pacific Flo’s adeptness at resolving challenges early on is a strong focus on employee training. The company invests substantial time in informing and educating its technicians, creating a well-rounded and adaptable team. At the same time, by ensuring technicians are versatile and knowledgeable, Pacific Flo prevents problems that can arise when employees are pigeonholed into specialized roles.

Crafted to help every technician understand the full scope of their work, Pacific Flo Mechanical’s training regime has proven effective. In fact, none of the trainees undergoing the training have failed a single level of the program—a rarity in the industry. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of Pacific Flo’s training methods and highlights the tangible benefits of investing in comprehensive employee development.

Creating an exceptional company culture is a top priority. Pacific Flo is dedicated to fostering an enjoyable workplace where every new hire is seamlessly integrated into the team. This mindset is the cornerstone of its operations and is pivotal to building a supportive and engaging work environment. The company organizes events and activities to strengthen team dynamics.

Bringing Intelligent Measurements for Higher Cost-Savings

Another core aspect of Pacific Flo’s reputation is its ability to provide clients with comprehensive data on their existing equipment’s performance during retrofit projects.

This is achieved through the use of advanced sensors that deliver precise data on operating costs and efficiency, enabling clients to make informed decisions about equipment replacement.

Embodying this data-driven mindset is its proprietary TRACE software, which helps clients better understand the overall efficiency of their mechanical implementations. Dubbed the Complete Servicing Software, it allows users to take preventative and predictive actions by finding insightful trends in the performance information gathered on mechanical equipment.

TRACE identifies underperforming equipment and allows clients to comprehend equipment maintenance needs visually. It also forecasts preventable equipment malfunctions through data mining, which prevents costly downtime, financial losses and inconvenience to tenants. The software delivers accurate cost-savings dollar figures instead of theoretical estimates when considering the replacement of older deployments with new, more efficient systems.

One of the most significant challenges we encounter on nearly every project is the substantial discrepancy between the provided drawings and their real-world application

Equally impressive is Pacific Flo’s PULSE monitoring tool, which captures the cost, performance and efficiency of mechanical systems and creates a clear and concise report that outlines actionable steps to reduce costs and/or consumption. The impact of the non-invasive solution is highlighted in its widespread deployment across the Vancouver area, from dental ceramic manufacturers to agricultural facilities.

Created with a “you can’t manage what you can’t measure” tenet, PULSE sensors can be plugged into any mechanical system and only take a few hours to install. They connect to Wi-Fi and ensure unidirectional data flow to ensure security is never compromised. The tool also has a software add-on, which includes monthly reports outlining use, cost and efficiency, as well as alerts, predictive maintenance indicators, trends and forecasting for any given equipment.

Promoting Growth via Measured Decision-Making

In a notable engagement, a leading dental ceramic manufacturer that had moved to a new state-of-the-art facility wanted to understand how their critical equipment was performing. For this client, the sensors were installed on the AC compressor and vacuum system to monitor their use, efficiency and performance. PULSE soon provided them with a clear and understandable picture of the used and costs of these deployments, enabling the manufacturer to identify the optimal time to clean the vacuum system.

The air compressor was determined to be running an average of 32.55 minutes every night after the facility was closed. With this information, the client reduced the intervals between vacuum cleaning processes and decided to install a timer on the compressor to ensure reduced energy consumption and downtime.

PULSE also detected that the air pressure serving most of the equipment was too high, with only a few machines needing the 110 PSI pressure. This insight led to installing pressure-reducing valves at 80 percent of their facility’s end terminations. Ultimately, the implementation of PULSE led to substantial savings for the client. As their facility grows, PULSE continues to provide use patterns, cost of operations and load data, allowing them to better understand how their current equipment line can adapt to their continued expansion.

This is one of the numerous successes Pacific Flo has ignited with its dedication to excellence and innovation in mechanical systems monitoring and maintenance. Setting a new standard in the industry, it remains a trusted mechanical equipment contractor in the Vancouver area. Known for its ability to take on the most complex projects, Pacific Flo Mechanical delivers the desired cost-savings with the confidence and reliability that only comes with a genuinely adaptive workforce and a track record of success.
