Electrical boxes are pre-positioned within each panel, with ¾-inch wire chases running between them to allow on-site electricians to pull wiring. The wire chases are fully connected between electrical boxes before the panels leave the factory, unlike many conventional panel systems, where electricians must cut or melt foam to create routing paths. The panels are manufactured using oriented strand board (OSB) skins in sections up to eight feet wide and 24 feet long. With individual panels covering up to 192 square feet, larger wall sections can be enclosed significantly faster than traditional framing methods.

SIPS of America injects closed-cell polyurethane foam directly into the panel to minimize voids, rather than gluing pre-formed foam to the OSB skins. The controlled pressing process increases foam density from two to 2.5 pounds per cubic foot, achieving an average R-value of 7.5 per inch. A six-inch wall panel delivers an R40 insulation value, compared with R25 for conventional EPS-based systems.

From Design Plans to Final Build

Each project begins with customers submitting their building plans. The company recommends allowing three months between placing an order and the required on-site delivery date. Based on the plans, it prepares a 3D rendering showing how the completed panel system will look, together with a total cost estimate, which serves as the contract price.

Once the pricing is approved and the project moves into contract, SIPS of America begins detailed panel engineering. Over the next four to six weeks, its in-house drafting team develops the panel layouts, incorporating project-specific details such as window and door openings, electrical boxes and wire chases before releasing the models for review.

The panels then move into production and are delivered to the site within the planned three-month timeline. While installation is carried out by the client’s contractor, SIPS of America can recommend experienced installation teams when required.

Quality Control at Every Stage

SIPS of America incorporates multiple quality control checks throughout the manufacturing process. Each morning begins with foam testing, where sample injections are weighed and evaluated to verify that the polyurethane components are balanced before production begins. It also monitors foam performance during expansion and curing to ensure consistency across panel runs.

Once manufactured, panels undergo inspection through FLIR infrared imaging technology for potential voids within the insulated core. This helps verify that the foam has expanded evenly throughout the assembly. From there, the edges are cleaned and placed on 4x4 runners and wrapped in clear plastic, ready for shipment.

These procedures are supported by a team of industry veterans, many of whom bring more than a decade of experience in SIP manufacturing. For projects requiring additional engineering, the company works with external engineering partners such as Tamarack Grove Engineering in Idaho. As per requirements, SIPS of America can also provide wet-sealed engineering calculations for projects throughout the U.S. and neighboring countries.
